The Trekology Aluft Pillow Deluxe is a bit bigger than other inflatable pillows. The arched shape means it fits inside most sleeping bags and a tidy valve system shows the extent of thought that went into this nifty little item which has now my favourite camping pillow.
You’ll find a long line of camping pillows on the market but I often find these pillows are either too big or too small or too uncomfortable. Maybe I’m hard to please. This Trekology camping pillow is nicely sized for sleeping (40 x 28 x 10cm) and there is a handy strap that fixes to your sleeping mattress to ensure it doesn’t move during the night.
But that’s just part of the story.
Trekology Aluft Camping Pillow Review
Because I was blown away by the size and weight of this camping pillow. It weighs just 120 grams and packs down to an incredibly small size – 15 x 10 x 7cm. To be honest, the size and extra weight of a camping pillow is what used to put me off and this means the Trekology camping pillow has left me with no good reason not to carry one.
Back to the design for a moment…
The inner bladder is placed inside a fabric cover and a proprietary air valve then enables the user to blow it up. It took me five seconds to inflate the item and I really like the double decked feature which allows you to click the valve open and closed in between each time you inflate or deflate the pillow. It might not make sense to you right now but trust me, this is a surprisingly useful and satisfying addition!
As for comfort, the Trekology Aluft Deluxe camping pillow features a slight depression and curve which does a great job of cradling the head. It’s suitable for both back and side sleepers and strikes a reasonably good balance between functionality and comfort. The truth is, an inflatable pillow is never going to be as soft, supportive or comfortable as a real one so expectations need to be managed here!
This is also one of the most affordable camping pillows on the market. Most ultralight items tend to be quite pricey so it’s always nice to find these budget camping gear. I really love the Trekology Aluft Deluxe Pillow and it feels like a step up as far as inflatable pillows go. And for the first time in ages, I don’t have any reason to leave a pillow behind as it can almost fit inside the palm of your hand.
